Start-Ups and New Projects

Business challenges

It is vital at the start-up of any major project that people understand the aims and objectives of the project and how the project will impact them. It is vital that key project players understand how the project will be run and that they operate as a project team. It must be clear to all what the project organization is and how the project will be run. Challenges facing organizations are:

  • How to ensure project objectives are well communicated
  • The project structure, roles and responsibilities are clear to all
  • It is clear what the project results should be
  • It is clear to all involved in the project what is expected of them

GamingWorks can support these types of project start-up challenges.  Our products can be used for:

  • Communicating project goals and expected results
For projects that are focussing on implementing process ways of working we can ensure that project goals and expected results are used as input to and kick off for our simulations. During reflection we can focus on how applying new ways of working (to be realized by the project) have lead to clear improvements (related to the expected results to be achieved). By allowing people to test and apply new ways of working it will also become clear to participants what will be expected of them during and after the project.
  • Creating awareness of project ways of working
Our Challenge of Egypt simulation can be played to show Prince2, PMI or various other project management methods. If you are adopting a new project method we can use our simulation to show how that method works and what it will mean to all roles involved in a project.
  • Creating a cohesive project team and responsibilities
At the start-up of a large, costly potentially risk filled project we can use the Challenge of Egypt and let key project stakeholders (sponsors, project managers, project team leaders, project resources) play the simulation. They will learn about the roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of all project stakeholders and what is expected of them. In the Challenge of Egypt delegates are confronted with the skills and competences needed by the project manager to manage both the project and the stakeholders.
  • Kick-off
Simulations are excellent ways of starting up a project or program. All employees are together, management can inform them about the program issues and after this the teams will play the games and will focus on the project or program objectives. Games are a way of involving all employees from all levels and stimulating dialogue and working together.
